The ASHP and other governing bodies have endorsed bar-code scanning and bedside scanning initiatives, and encourage hospital pharmacies to incorporate bar-code scanning at all steps of the medication use process – from prescribing to transcribing, dispensing, administration, monitoring, and patient education.

Bar-code scanning during dispensing increases medication accuracy and patient safety. By automating the scanning process and scanning every dose twice before dispensing, PROmanager-Rx™ ensures those benefits more effectively than any other method.

PROmanager-Rx also qualifies as a capital expenditure for bar-code readiness (BCR). It supports a successful bedside scanning program and serves as a foundation system for bar-code medication administration (BCMA). As part of a BCR program, PROmanager-Rx meets the definition of "meaningful use" described in H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which makes some or all of a BCR initiative eligible for federal funding.
